How AerTwin works
AerTwin runs the 3D model of your structure on a high-performance computer in the cloud and shows you a live picture of it in your browser.
In short: you inspect the structure through a live picture of its 3D model. Every measurement is made on the model in the cloud, and every finding you save is stored there at once. Nothing is installed on your computer, and no project data is kept on it.
A live picture, not a download
Section titled “A live picture, not a download”The model of a dam or a bridge is too large for a laptop. When you open a structure, AerTwin starts a high-performance computer in the cloud for you alone. That computer draws the model and sends you a live picture of it. When you move the mouse, the picture follows.
- One computer for each person. What you do does not slow down anyone else.
- Opening can take a few minutes. A window shows each stage and a percentage while the computer starts and loads the model. When a computer is already running for you, it takes seconds.
- Pins follow the picture. Pins, labels and outlines are drawn over the picture, so they move with it — a moment behind the mouse, exactly as the model does.
Your work is stored when you save it
Section titled “Your work is stored when you save it”A finding or a measurement is stored in the cloud when you click Save. Your colleagues see it after they click Refresh. Work that you have not saved — an outline you are still drawing, a form you have not saved — exists only in your browser.
Measurements are made on the model
Section titled “Measurements are made on the model”When you click the model, AerTwin finds that point on the 3D model in the cloud and measures there, not on the pixels of your screen. Moving closer therefore shows you more but does not measure more finely. Every volume carries a quality word — Good, Fair, Indicative or Not measurable — that states how far to trust it. See About measurement accuracy.
The model shows the structure as it was captured
Section titled “The model shows the structure as it was captured”The colours of the model come from the photographs taken on the day of the capture, with no added light or shadow. You see the surface as the camera saw it. To examine a spot in the original photographs, use Photos.
Sessions and sign-in
Section titled “Sessions and sign-in”| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| AerTwin asks Are you still there? after | 2 minutes without input |
| AerTwin ends the session after | 15 minutes without input |
| A session ends in any case after | 4 hours |
| Your sign-in lasts | 12 hours on the same computer |
Anything already saved is safe when a session ends. Open the structure again to continue.
What you need
Section titled “What you need”- Google Chrome, current version, on a desktop or laptop computer with a mouse.
- An internet connection. The picture uses up to about 30 Mbit/s when your connection allows, and adapts to a slower one.
- A network that lets the picture through. Your IT team has the details in System and network requirements.
