Record a finding from a measurement
Turn a measurement into a finding with a title, a location, an assessment, a severity and a recommended action.
FindMeasurementsAdd observation
A finding recorded from a measurement carries its outline and its figures. The figures go into the report with it.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”- Draw and finish the measurement — for example an area round a spall, or a 3D defect. See the measuring tasks under Tasks.
- For a volume, a 3D defect or a depth profile, click the measure button first. Add observation stays unavailable until the figure is measured.
- Move the view so that the defect is framed as you want it to appear in the report. The view at the moment you click Add observation is saved with the finding.
To record a finding from a measurement
Section titled “To record a finding from a measurement”-
In the Measurement panel, click Add observation.
The Save measurement form opens. Title holds a suggested title, such as “Area 1.24 m²”, and Engineering assessment holds the measured figures.
-
In Title, replace the suggested title with a short name — for example “Spalling at the joint, bay 3”.
-
In Dam component / location, enter where it is, in site terms — for example “Spillway > Bay 3 > downstream face”.
-
In Engineering assessment, keep the figures and add the condition, the likely mechanism, the evidence and how certain you are.
-
Select the Severity, the Status and the Category.
Status starts as open and Category as other.
-
If an action is needed, enter it in Recommended action, and set a Target date.
-
Click Save.
The form closes. The finding’s number appears on the model beside the outline, and the finding appears in the Observations panel, marked draft.
The finding is a draft until someone signs it off. Only signed-off findings appear in reports. See Sign off a finding.
