Measure a distance

Measure the length along the surface of the structure between two or more points — a joint, a crack, or the width of a defect.

FindMeasureDistance

A distance is the sum of the straight segments between the points you click, and every point lies on the surface of the model. Click along a crack to measure its total length: the more points you place, the more closely the line follows the concrete.

  1. On the toolbar, click Measure ▸ Distance.

  2. Click the first point on the model.

  3. Click each further point along the line. Two points are enough for a straight distance.

To remove the last point, press Backspace.

  4. To finish the line, do one of the following:

    • Press Enter.
    • Double-click.
    • Right-click.

The line appears on the model with its length. The Measurement panel opens on the left.

  5. Read the figures in the Measurement panel:

    Figure Meaning
Length The total length of the line, through every point
Length (plan) The same line seen from directly above
Elevation (Min), Elevation (Max) The heights of the lowest and highest points, in metres
Elevation (Diff) The height difference between them
  6. Press Esc until Navigate is lit.

The measurement stays on the model until you save it, delete it or click Clear all. To keep it, see Save a measurement.

Measure with two points only. Length is then the straight distance between them. To see how the surface between the two points departs from that straight line, and the length measured over the concrete, measure a depth profile instead. See Measure a depth profile.
