Group findings by part of the structure

File several findings under one named part of the structure — "Pier 3, west face" — so that they are listed and reported together.

FindObservationsGroup

A group says that several findings describe one part of the structure. It never merges them and never totals their figures: each finding keeps its own number, measurement and sign-off. Filing a finding in a group does not affect its sign-off.

Each group gets a number — GRP-001, GRP-002 and so on — that is printed in reports and never changes.

  1. On the toolbar, click Observations.

  2. Tick the findings that belong together: Ctrl+click each card, or Shift+click to tick a run of cards.

The actions bar appears and counts the ticked findings.

  3. In Name this part of the structure…, enter what an engineer would call it — for example “Pier 3, west face”.

  4. Click Group, or press Enter.

The list now has a section for the group, with its number and name. Findings in no group are listed last, under Not filed under a part.

  1. Tick the findings.
  2. In Add to an existing group…, select the group.
  1. Tick the findings.

  2. Click Ungroup.

The findings move to Not filed under a part. They are not changed in any other way.

In the group’s section heading:

Control What it does
Arrow Folds or unfolds the section in the list
Eye Hides or shows every finding in the group on the model
Select Ticks every finding in the group
Rename Gives the group a new name. Its number stays the same
Delete Removes the group. Its findings stay in the list, unfiled. Nothing is removed from the record

Every one of these changes except folding and hiding can be undone with Ctrl+Z.

A PDF report lists the findings group by group, each group with its own heading page, in group-number order. The first page counts the findings in each part of the structure. See PDF report contents.
