Tasks
Step-by-step procedures for every job in AerTwin, grouped in the order of an inspection — open, inspect, measure, record, review, report.
Each task is one procedure from start to finish. A task that needs the Inspector or Admin role says so under its title.
Open and navigate
- Open a structureOpen a structure from the projects page and wait while AerTwin prepares its model.
- Navigate the modelOrbit, pan, zoom and fly to a point on the 3D model with the mouse and the keyboard.
- Keep your session activeAnswer "Are you still there?" so that AerTwin keeps your session, and open the structure again if the session was ended.
- Leave a structure and sign outReturn to the projects page when you have finished with a structure, and sign out when you have finished for the day.
Inspect
- View the source photographs of a pointFind the capture photographs that show a point on the structure, and examine the sharpest of them.
- Cut the model with a section planeCut away part of the model along a plane so that you can look at, and measure, what is behind the surface.
- Choose what the model showsDecide which findings appear on the model and how much of each is drawn, so that the structure stays readable.
Measure
- Measure a distanceMeasure the length along the surface of the structure between two or more points — a joint, a crack, or the width of a defect.
- Measure an areaMeasure the surface area inside an outline that you draw on the structure.
- Measure missing concreteEstimate how much concrete has broken away from a face — a spall, a pop-out, a scour hole — with the 3D defect tool.
- Measure a volumeMeasure the material between the surface and a base level that you choose — a deposit, a stockpile, scour or erosion.
- Measure a depth profileMeasure how far the surface departs from the straight line between two points — a bulge, a recess, a step at a joint — and see it as a cross-section.
- Change the shape of an outlineMove, add and remove the points of an outline or a line — before you save it, or on a saved finding with Apply.
- Change what an outline measuresMeasure the same points as something else — an area as a volume or a 3D defect, a line as a depth profile or a section — without drawing them again.
- Save a measurementKeep a measurement in the project's records, either at once under an automatic title or with a severity, a category and notes.
Record findings
- Record a finding at a pointPlace a finding at one point on the structure and describe what you observed there.
- Record a finding from a measurementTurn a measurement into a finding with a title, a location, an assessment, a severity and a recommended action.
- Record a finding on a photographMark a defect on a source photograph — as a point, a rectangle or an outline — and record it as a finding on the model.
- Edit a findingChange the title, the assessment, the severity or any other detail of a saved finding.
- Undo and redo changesTake back a change you have just made — a deleted finding, an edit, a new outline, a filing — and redo it if you need to.
- Delete a findingRemove a finding, or several ticked findings, from the project's active record — and bring one back with Undo.
- Find findingsNarrow the Observations list to the findings you need, by search text and by filters, and go to one on the model.
- Group findings by part of the structureFile several findings under one named part of the structure — "Pier 3, west face" — so that they are listed and reported together.
- Update the view of a measurementReplace the view that a saved measurement flies back to — and that its PDF page is rendered from — with the view on the screen.
- Mark the location of an instrumentPlace a mark on the structure where a monitoring instrument is installed — a piezometer, a crackmeter, a survey point — with its tag and type.
Review AI proposals
- Review AI proposalsWork through the defects the AI has proposed near your view, and sign off, dismiss or skip each one.
- Correct the outline of a proposalFix a proposal whose outline is close but not right with Edit shape, or replace it with your own measurement with Replace geometry.
- Take back a review decisionReverse a sign-off or a dismissal, so that the proposal returns to the review list.
Sign off and report
- Sign off a findingAccept a finding under your name so that it enters the project's reports.
- Add a second reviewAdd an optional, independent second sign-off to a finding that another engineer has already signed off.
- Export a PDF reportProduce a PDF report of signed-off findings — either the ones you have ticked, or all the ones the list shows — with each finding rendered from its saved view.
- Export findings as CSVExport signed-off findings as a spreadsheet file, one row per finding, with every measured figure in its own column.
- Copy a repair instructionCopy a signed-off finding's recommended action as plain text, ready to paste into a maintenance or work-order system such as SAP PM.
Work with your team
- See what your team has doneRead what other members of your projects have saved recently — new, changed and deleted findings, and review decisions — and go to any of them.
- Refresh the findings listBring your Observations list up to date with what your colleagues have saved since you opened the structure.
- Resolve a conflicting editKeep your changes when a colleague saved the same finding while you were editing it.
